The
Falls are located on Clark Wright Road off River Road, which is a pretty
ride form route 143 in Worthington. Or, if you’re coming from the
South, take Middlefield Road off Route 20 in Chester, take a right on Skyline
Trail and a left on Clark Wright Road, the entrance to the Falls is on
your left.
Glendale Brook meanders through a natural
upland meadow which was once part of the 18th century Glendale Farm. Grist
mill foundations can be seen at the top of the falls.
At the crest of a hill, you’ll see
a series of cascades on Glendale Brook plummeting 150 feet to the valley
below. The cold, clear water tumbles through Middlefield
forests over enormous boulders, into swimming holes, joining the Middle
Branch of the Westfield River. Glendale Falls is a 60-acre preserve.
A 1/4 mile steep trail leads to the bottom of the falls and a 3-tenths
of a mile wood road leads south to land owned by the Massachusetts Division
of Fish and Wildlife. The falls are preserved and maintained by the Massachusetts
Trustees of Reservations.
