At the Chester Depot Railroad Museum you’ll learn what it was like to ride the rails!
The old train station is the focus of Chester’s downtown business district which is listed on the National Historic Register. The Chester Railroad Station was originally situated at the end of Main Street. There’s no exact original building date for the depot, but the Western Railroad began operation in 1841. Originally, it was a passenger station, which included a restaurant. Later, is was also used for freight. When Conrail scheduled the Chester station for demolition, public protest saved the historic landmark. The Chester Foundation was formed and the building was moved across the tracks to its present location on Prospect Street. The station now operates as a railroading museum, with a Children’s Heritage Box Car. Each Spring, the old depot is the site of Chester on Track, a family event which kicks off with a parade and includes concerts, history presentations, games, and wagon rides.

On weekends in August, the Chester Depot Museum is open from 11am to 4pm.
