The
Keystone Arches in Middlefield are the first keystone bridges built for
railroad use in America. There are a series of 10 arches in this area,
built in 1840. While this arch is out in the open, the rest are secluded,
a tribute to incomparable architectural craftsmanship.
It’s a long and dangerous hike to visit all of the arches, but in a few
years, the arches will be much easier to see and enjoy. A local committee
has received grant money from the state to preserve the arches and build
a park so more of us can enjoy these architectural marvels!
